That being said, there are a few garden-y things you can do to until we actually have warmer weather.
- Plan your garden lay out
- Look through seed catalogs, take seed inventory, order seeds
- Read about gardening.
- Clean the leaves of your houseplants
- Pre-sprout seed potatoes
- Prune raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and fruit trees
- Mow asparagus ferns
- Start seeds indoors: lettuce, cauliflower, celery, broccoli, and cabbage
I've given up starting seeds indoors. I must be doing something wrong because they never survive. I only direct sow now, which limits by growing season, but eliminates the temptation to curse.
A picture of what is to come...I can't wait!
Fantastic list!!!! You have gotten me so excited by this post! And is winter ever throwing one last party or what!?! Do you bring your seedlings outside for a few hours a day to allow them to get acclimated to the light and air when it's warmer before planting? That would be the only thing I can think of it's called hardening off. Happy planning friend! Here is to spring!!!! Nicole
ReplyDeleteMy seedlings never make it that far. they always end up to "leggy" and fall over. I think it might be the lighting set up I use. Maybe I should just try putting them by a window instead.
DeleteI felt like a kid in a candy store ordering seeds! These temps are so COLD - when it warms up I will try SOOOO hard not to complain!
Great gardening advice... especially ordering the plants you want for the season. Some of the dahlias on my wishlist are already sold out! Hope it warms up for you soon.
ReplyDeleteOh bummer about your dahlias. Maybe you will still find them somewhere.
DeleteI am way behind with my garden planning this year - I just can't seem to get myself into gear yet - it is still to cold out to do much anyway but I will have to dust the propagators off before too long.
ReplyDeleteI'm desperate for any type of gardening at this point.
DeleteA great garden to-do list! Our gardens may be asleep, but our dreams for them continue!
ReplyDeletePoppy
I always have big dreams, and it never works out as planned, but I still love it.
DeleteGreat list...I am going to start my seed order Thursday. :-))
ReplyDeleteOh fun! It's like Christmas.
DeleteExciting.......it's all about to burst forth!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
