Upcycled/Recycled Sewing Machine

My husband brought home this heavy piece of furniture which was an old Singer sewing machine. Someone was throwing it out and he couldn't stand the thought of this piece of history being buried in a dump, just tossed aside - this hand crafted, made to last - American made machine.

I loved that he wanted to save it, but wasn't sure what we would do with it. We don't have a lot of extra space for things that don't serve a purpose.  A little research and creative thinking and he managed to turn the drawers into wine shelves.

He removed the bottom of the machine and attached a wine box to the base to create this interesting planter for the deck. I really like how it turned out.  We still have the sewing machine which weighs a ton, but is really quite beautiful. I'm not sure what we are doing with that yet, but we won't throw it away. If anything I will freecyle it.
Now, I just need to decide what to plant!

Vintage Dress Find

This isn't the most glamorous picture, but that's life folks. This dress called my name, fit me perfectly, and was only $10.00. Who could ask for more? The fabric detail is subtle and classic. I just love it.

The Vege-Men's Revenge: written by Bertha Upton / 1897

I don't own this lovely book, but I would love to some day.  You can read the full book with all the illustrations  here.

The story is about a little girl named Poppy who is sent by her mother to collect vegetables in her basket. The book is in three parts and in the first part Poppy meets Herr Carrot and Don Tomato who entice her with 'fair words' to come and see how they grow underground.

Thrifty Finds

We recently discovered a new thrift store a few towns over.  They have racks specifically marked "Vintage" clothing.  I love vintage clothing for so many reasons.  I spotted this dress and instantly thought of one of my nieces.

I love the detail of the sleeves.

And this fellow fell in LOVE with this suit.  It fits him perfectly, as if it were made for him.
He has been wearing it like a uniform ever since.  He told us he was never taking it off, but we have had a few costume changes - although not many and very much against his will.
This brand is "Billy the Kid".  He actually owns a vintage jacket with the same label.  The store had quite a few "Billy the Kid" clothes that I was trying to convince him to buy, but he only had eyes for this.
You gotta love a kid with style....even if it resembles a car salesman from 1972.
