YUMMY WORLD

While touring around New York, I stumbled across a toy store located in Grand Central Station called Kidding Around.  The window display caught my eye. It brought me so much joy to see Heidi's plush displayed in the window.  My son is a huge fan of the Yummy World items.  His key chain collection is ever growing.  I guess I know what I can put in his Easter basket!

National Christmas Center

This summer, while on an adventure with Heidi, we stopped at The National Christmas Center in PA.  This was my first time visiting here and it did not disappoint.  There is a 1950's Woolworth's store complete with original stock (non of it is for sale - but there are so many adorable items).

If you are ever close to the Hershey, PA area you should add this stop to your road trip.  Looking back at all the photos I took, really gets me in the holiday spirit.

A Very Merry Advent that Saved Christmas

This weekend I need to get serious about the upcoming holiday.  Specifically our advent activities.  Normally I have these planned way in advance.  November is quickly coming to a close and I have nothing put together.  Luckily,  Heidi and Amanda created A Very Merry Advent which is just perfect.  Thanks girls, you may have just saved Christmas!

Happy Halloween 2013

Mid October was a treat.  Heidi hosted her almost monthly crafternoon.  She is the best hostess, thinks of all the details, and makes sure that life as an adult is just as exciting as being a kid...maybe even better!

She made a mix cd of halloween songs and these lovely treat bags.

We had themed food, like these witchy fingers as well as plenty of other yummy treats.

We all came in costume.  You can visit her blog to see some of the other great costumes.  I was going for a Megan Draper look.  She printed out these cute ballots to cast of votes for our favorite costumes.  We made Halloween jewelry and laughed about all sorts of inappropriate things.

Sometimes you have to take a step away from the normal day to day and celebrate being goofy and fun.  That's what holidays like this are all about.  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Saving an organic cotton sheet from becoming trash before its' time.

A large rip in this sheet - perhaps from too many washes? I bought these organic cotton sheets on sale a few years ago.  They get softer (and thinner) with every wash.  They are my son's favorite though, so something had to be done.

First I hand stitched the rip together.

Then just covered the rip with a patch of fabric.  I suppose you could do both sides, but this is the fitted sheet, so the underside won't show.

Make the bed as normal, and no one will be the wiser.  I might not be able to save the world, but I certainly can save a sheet.  *Hopefully my sewing job holds up in the wash*

The 7 Year Quilt

In 2009, Heidi introduced me to paper piecing.  We both started on a quilt.  I made my hexagons a lot larger than hers for faster results.  Well, four years later and the quilt is still a work in progress.  Not that I mind.  It is something that I will work on for a few days, then fold up and put away for months.  It's one of those slow projects that you can keep coming back to without much thought.  We jokingly call them our 7 year quilts because that is the time frame they will most likely be completed.

On Our Way

On our way to and from Rye, NY, Heidi planned a lot of fun stops along the way to make the trip interesting.  We made sure to stop at some thrift stores too.
Roadside America - who doesn't love miniature villages?  I would love to work on a project like this.

Hershey's Chocolate World - of course I had to take a picture of my favorite Hershey's product.

This beautiful old river boat was once a saloon.  It would make such a cute diner.
We stopped in Amish country to get shoo-fly pie and whoopie pies.

Mister Eds Elephant Museum - we left with a bag of old fashioned candy.

National Christmas Center - I took a million pictures here, but will save those for another day.

We had an incredible weekend, thanks to Heidi and her great trip planning skills.

Yummy Trading Party, Candy Rox - Rye, NY

Heidi invited me to Candy Rox in Rye, NY. for a Yummy Trading Party. Our boys kept each other company during the drive and she planned all sorts of fun stops along the way.  The store front was super adorable with all of her plush.  We brought home the ice cream sandwich to add to our collection.

The store did an amazing job promoting this event.  Apparently, Heidi is a big deal in this town.  All the kids collect the key chains and were star struck meeting the designer of these cute collectibles.  The store was packed with people the entire event.

Even my son made sure to get one of his Yummy key chains signed. The kids were so cute, trading key chains, getting autographs, and asking oh so many questions about when the next series was coming out and what it would be.  The event flew by, the kids were great, and the staff at Candy Rox were amazing.

Fun With Acorns: Part 2

At our recent crafternoon we made felted acorns.
The process was quite simple:
-Dip wool in soapy water
-Roll gently in the palms of your hands until a felted ball forms
-Let dry
-Glue acorn top to felted acorn

The result is very quaint and lovely!
