It's the (second) most wonderful time of the year!

Enough with the beach pictures and back to reality which is crisp mornings and fall leaves.  This time of year is filled with brilliant colors.  Raking leaves and stacking wood are weekend activities.  Bring on the gingerbread cookies and hot apple cider.  We've got pumpkins carved and are gearing up for a family dance night, Halloween style, at a local barn

If you are looking for something to do with acorns here are a few ideas.  We hope you are embracing all things fall.

Fun With Acorns: Part 2

At our recent crafternoon we made felted acorns.
The process was quite simple:
-Dip wool in soapy water
-Roll gently in the palms of your hands until a felted ball forms
-Let dry
-Glue acorn top to felted acorn

The result is very quaint and lovely!

Fun with Acorns: Part 1

-Go for a walk
-Collect Acorn caps
-Identify them

I love the differences in color, texture, and patterns each type of acorn cap has.

The height and depth differences

There are White Oak and Black Oak and Red Oak varieties. I'm no expert. We did our best to identify them. I think next time we will be smarter and collect the leaves with the acorns to make identifying easier.
