I've been going through my book collection. My oldest book is from 1848: The Ferry-Man's Daughter by D.P. Kidder
In 1848, the US was experiencing the Gold Rush, we were fighting cholera epidemics, and opening our first medical school for women.
I love the history captured in these old gems. Lost language and etiquette are kept alive in printed form. It's hard to believe some of these survived through history. I feel so lucky to own these bits of history.
So beautiful.... It is amazing that they made it this far! How lucky you are to have these wonderful pieces from the past!
ReplyDeleteI have my husband's grandmothers entire collection of books from her childhood and some from his grandfather. I just love the illustrations and topics.
DeleteWow that's amazing! I have an old dictionary that belonged to my Gran .. as old as the hills and weighs a ton. But treasured!
ReplyDeleteIt's even better when a book is passed on from the family. I have quite a few from my husband's grandparents. They are near and dear to me.
