Rumors in the Hen House
The snow is melting, but I keep hearing rumors of more to come. Time will tell. I'm over this long winter and ready to see signs of spring. I've spotted a few robins, but I want to see green shoots pushing through the muddy earth and the smells of spring. The girls in the hen house are sick of being cooped up (literally). We open their door daily, but they have no desire to leave the roost when the ground is snowy and I don't blame them at all.
And despite the freezing temps this winter, our 5 little hens have been good to us. We collect 2-3 eggs daily which is pretty good for winter gathering. We don't use lights on them, but let nature do it's thing. I bet they dream of scratching through the dirt and leaves for grubs.

DeleteHi Kate! The snow sure is pretty! But I know you are ready for Spring! We've been enjoying Spring-like weather here this week, but it's supposed to turn cold again with a chance of snow tomorrow night. Weird for Alabama!
ReplyDeleteI got five eggs today from seven hens! I was so excited! They don't lay that many every day, usually one or two. I need to make a frittata! Hope the snow melts soon! Blessings from Bama!

DeleteHi Kate ... wonderful pics! Very jealous about your chooks laying in winter. I have about 15 and they have dropped to about 4 per day already. Shame on them! LOL Nice to see you on my blog.
